The Mulligan Concept: MWM Basics Course

Build The Foundation For Confident, Pain-Free Manual Therapy With The Mulligan Concept™

This two-day introductory course presents the foundational principles of the Mulligan Concept, focusing on manual therapy techniques for both the spine and the upper/lower extremities. Through a combination of targeted lecture, live patient demonstrations, and hands-on lab sessions, participants will gain their first clinical exposure to Mobilization With Movement (MWM).

Attendees will learn to apply MWM techniques within a practical, outcomes-based framework that emphasizes pain-free movement, immediate functional improvement, and patient-centered care. This approach blends precise manual mobilizations with active patient movement to restore joint and soft tissue function in a safe, effective manner.

Note: This course is an excellent entry point for those new to the Mulligan Concept. However, it is not a prerequisite for certification. Those pursuing the Certified Mulligan Practitioner (CMP) credential must complete the Upper Quarter, Lower Quarter, and Advanced courses as part of the official certification track.

Are CEU Credits Included?

Yes, most states and courses include CEU credits. Please check out our CEU page to learn more about your state and what is included!

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Explain the theoretical principles

underlying the Mulligan Concept, including pain-free mobilization with movement (MWM) and the concept of positional fault correction and neurophysiological mechanisms of action.

Identify key anatomical structures

and neuromuscular relationships relevant to Mulligan techniques in the spine and extremities.

Demonstrate accurate patient assessment skills
to determine indications, contraindications for appropriate selection and delivery of Mulligan techniques for the spine and extremities.

Perform Mulligan Mobilization with Movement (MWM) techniques

with correct therapist and patient positioning and appropriate force application.

Demonstrate the use of taping and self-treatment strategies

consistent with the Mulligan Concept to reinforce carryover between clinical sessions.

Discuss current research evidence
from the past 5 years supporting the efficacy and safety of the Mulligan Concept in managing musculoskeletal conditions.
