The Mulligan Concept® is a manual therapy approach developed by Brian Mulligan, F.N.Z.S.P. (Hon), Dip. M.T., that integrates symptom-free joint mobilizations with active movement to correct positional faults and restore function. This technique addresses neuromusculoskeletal dysfunction through sustained accessory glides performed concurrently with patient movement, resulting in immediate and lasting improvements in mobility
and pain. Clinicians trained in the Mulligan Concept apply these techniques with precision to improve joint kinematics, reduce protective neuromuscular guarding, and facilitate rapid return to functional activities.
The North American Mulligan Concept® Teachers Association (NA-MCTA) consists of 11 accredited instructors who collaborate to deliver high-quality Mulligan Concept® education across the United States and Canada. As an officially recognized branch of the international Mulligan Concept® Teachers Association (MCTA), this group represents a select cohort of manual therapy educators credentialed to teach the Mulligan Concept® to licensed clinicians. NA-MCTA instructors uphold the global standards of the MCTA while advancing clinical excellence through consistent, evidence-informed instruction.
The Mulligan Concept® Teachers Association (MCTA) was established to ensure consistent, high-level instruction of the approach worldwide. Today, the MCTA includes approximately 55 internationally accredited instructors, each with advanced training in manipulative therapy that meets or exceeds IFOMPT standards (e.g., Graduate Diploma in Advanced Manipulative Therapy). This ensures that every course is taught by a clinician
with deep expertise in manual therapy and a commitment to clinical excellence.
